During winter 2012-2013 i have during 8 weeks tested an inverted L for 80m band and compare results with my 80m V dipole...
14m vertical part 1.5m of tower and approx 5.5m near horizontal (110°) + 16 radials 4 * 20m 12*10m + ground socket.
Results with some examples:
RX : 1-2points lower than the Inverted V dipole @14-9m gnd, and also 1-2db less band noise.
TX : A shame, ... Some stations from N-A give me 33 on L and 57 in dipole; or Japaness , in noise with the L to 57-59 on Inv V.
I ve choise to test with station NA (300°) and Japan (50°), so 2 diffrent directions and nearly at 90° az ...
Ewample with AH0 :
Nothing RXed, was ok with the V dipole and weak but with good S/N on the millitary discone antenna.
TX impossible to be heard with, and ok with V dipole with my usuals 100w.
Conclusion :
POOR Results on my qth with L antenna ...
I use a simple V dipole , no balun , directly feed at 14m ground and extremity at 9m gnd.
Here few pics of the system ... 6m high illumination-pole + 3m of alumin poles to fit a side of the 80m inverted V.
A home-made chair to fix the mast and gabarit are done.
80m V-dipole (also sometimes used for 30m)
